Handouts Created by PACEs Connection and Partners
3 Realms of ACEs
This graphic was created by PACEs Connection with inspiration and guidance from Building Community Resilience Collaborative and Networks and the International Transformational Resilience Coalition. The ACEs in these three realms - household, community, and environment - intertwine throughout people’s lives, and affect the viability of families, communities, organizations, and systems. The handout also covers five important findings from the ACEs study. Download the pdf in the attachments below. This handout can be downloaded, distributed, and used freely. Available in English.
Coping with Stress During the COVID-19 Pandemic
The California Department of Public Health, Injury and Prevention Branch (CDPH/IVPB) and the California Department of Social Service, Office of Child Abuse Prevention’s (CDSS/OCAP), Essentials for Childhood (EfC) Initiative, PACEs Connection, and the Yolo County Children’s Alliance co-created this resource for Californian families experiencing the severe economic consequences resulting from novel coronavirus, COVID-19. The handout shares resources and offers supportive information on ways Californians can take care of themselves and their families during the pandemic. Both the English and Spanish versions are accessible (i.e., ADA compliant). Although this was created during the pandemic, much of the advice is applicable for all kinds of stress.
Parenting to Prevent & Heal ACEs
This handout is based on the work of Donna Jackson Nakazawa who worked with us and generously allowed us to paraphrase content from her book, Childhood Disrupted: How Your Biography Becomes Your Biology & How You Can Heal. Donna's book specifically addresses those of us parenting with ACEs (which she also does brilliantly in the powerful documentary, Wrestling Ghosts, about parenting and healing from ACEs). Family Hui, a Program of Lead for Tomorrow, provided generous support towards the creation and translation of this handout. This handout can be downloaded, distributed, and used freely. Available in English, Spanish, and Dari.
Path to a Just Society
You're invited to add your logo to this infographic developed by the Race and Equity workgroup of PACEs Connection to help foster a common language and identify common points along the path to a just society. Use the infographic to gauge where you are, where you want to be, and what’s needed to get to the next level of integrating practices and policies based on the science of positive and adverse childhood experiences (PACEs). You can use the tool as a starting point for conversations and actions to accelerate the PACEs science movement in your community as you work to prevent and heal trauma and help individuals, families, organizations, systems and communities—our world—toward reaching a just society, where all people flourish. You can read more about the infographic and its development here. Available in English and Spanish.
Stress Busters
We all have inner strengths and resilience that can help us deal with challenges and stress. To help us manage stress, PACEs Connection and ACEs Aware created a handout based on seven evidence-based stress busters, as described in the Roadmap for Resilience: The California Surgeon General’s Report on Adverse Childhood Experiences, Toxic Stress, and Health. These interventions can help reduce stress, improve health, and build resilience. This handout gives many ideas for how to build stress-busting muscles. The California Virtual Training Academy (VTA) provided support in the creation and translation of this handout. This resource was reviewed by the California Collaborative ACEs Learning and Quality Improvement Collaborative (CALQIC) Patient Community Advisory Board. CALQIC also supported translation of the document. Available in English, Spanish, Arabic, Dari, and Farsi.
10-minute videos on each of the Stress Busters are also available from California Virtual Training Academy (VTA)
Understanding ACEs
This is an updated version of the popular hand-out created and shared by the Community & Family Services Division at the Spokane (WA) Regional Health District. The first version of this handout has been downloaded thousands and thousands of times and used by individuals and organizations. Family Hui, a Program of Lead for Tomorrow, provided generous support towards the creation and translation of this handout. This resource was reviewed by the California Collaborative ACEs Learning and Quality Improvement Collaborative (CALQIC) Patient Community Advisory Board. CALQIC also supported translation of the document. This handout can be downloaded, distributed, and used freely. Available in English, Spanish, Arabic, Dari, and Farsi.
Who Can Make a Difference in the Lives of Children and Youth?
We all know that children and youth need support to thrive. What we don't often think about is just how many organizations and individuals have the opportunity to impact the lives of children and youth. This infographic shows the possibilities! Available in English.
