The National Council for Behavioral Health designed this tool to be completed by a range of stakeholders, including leadership, supervisors, practitioners, consumers and support staff.
- The Missouri Mode: A Developmental Framework for Trauma-Informed Approaches
A group of organizations in the state of Missouri developed this framework to help determine whether a particular agency or setting is meeting some basic criteria for integration of trauma principles and to help agencies or settings identify where they are on the continuum and where they want to be. The framework can apply to a wide range of settings, including but not limited to behavioral health services.
- Trauma-Informed Organization Assessments
This table of tools that assess where an organization is on the journey to become trauma informed and healing responsive was gathered by the Child and Family team at UMass Medical School in partnership with the Campaign for Trauma-Informed Policy and Practice (CTIPP). You can also view a recording of the May 19, 2021, CTIPP CAN conversation: How to Determine if Your Organization is Trauma-Informed. The presenters are experts who have developed or are applying different tools for evaluating how trauma-informed an organization is and what additional steps organizations can take to become more trauma-informed.
- Westat's Table of Measures to Assess Organizational Trauma-Informed Practices and Policies
This list of measures (see the attachment HERE) provides some of the parameters that might help in the selection of an appropriate measure for an organization in a particular sector.

- NCTSN Trauma-Informed Organizational Assessment (TIOA), 2022
Helps organizations assess their current practices in the context of serving children and families who have experienced trauma. The NCTSN TIOA is a process created by the UCLA-Duke University National Center for Child Traumatic Stress (NCCTS). This course includes the assessment and accompanying resources for professionals interested in using the TIOA and provides information to get started, access to the assessment, guidance on using the assessment, and resources for implementation and organization change.
- Organizational Assessment Grid from Trauma Transformed.
- Ticometer, 2015
Comprising 35 items across five domains, this tool, created by the Center for Social Innovation, measures the degree to which an organization is engaged in trauma-informed practices.
- Traumatic Stress Institutes’ ARTIC Scale, 2016
This was the first psychometrically valid measure of trauma-informed care published in the peer reviewed literature. It can also be used in education settings.

American Institutes for Research created this 35-item online self-administered staff survey; can be used in housing, homeless, and behavioral health settings.
